About this opportunity
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at African Leadership University (ALU) is designed to help promising young leaders from across Africa access an ALU education when financial adversity or economic hardship would otherwise be a barrier.
The partnership provides a full scholarship programme and gives particular emphasis to young women, refugees and displaced young people, and young Africans with disabilities. ALU combines undergraduate and postgraduate education with an experiential model focused on ethical, entrepreneurial leadership and solving challenges across Africa. Applicants should select the programme that matches their academic plans in the official admissions portal; the scholarship page does not state that every ALU course or applicant automatically receives funding.
For the January 2027 intake, ALU’s official admissions page says applications close on 30 November 2026. This is the admissions deadline shown by ALU; the scholarship page does not publish a separate scholarship deadline.
The application has three stages. First, applicants complete an introductory form. Successful applicants then provide additional information and supporting documents. The final finances stage explains the expected contribution and determines whether the applicant qualifies to apply for ALU financial aid.
Applications must be completed by applicants themselves. ALU says it does not charge an application fee, does not reward application services and does not authorise agents to apply on an applicant’s behalf.
Who should consider it
Applicants should be promising young leaders from Africa who want to study at ALU and can show financial adversity or economic hardship. The programme particularly emphasises young women, refugees and displaced young people, and young Africans with disabilities.
Applicants must complete the official ALU admissions process and provide the supporting documents requested at Stage 2. Financial-aid eligibility is assessed during the finances stage. Meeting the general admissions criteria does not by itself confirm scholarship selection.
