About this opportunity

ACT-PREP is offering 15 PhD and 10 postdoctoral research fellowships to strengthen Africa’s clinical-trial and epidemic-preparedness capacity. Research themes include clinical trials and trial readiness, disease surveillance, modelling and AI, ethics and regulatory science, laboratory and genomic surveillance, One Health, health-systems resilience, and epidemic preparedness and response. Support may include tuition, monthly stipends, research funding, mentorship, specialist training, access to research sites and datasets, mobility support and professional networks. PhD Round 1 closes 15 September 2026; PhD Round 2 and postdoctoral applications close 30 September 2026.

Who should consider it

Applicants must be nationals of DRC, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania or Uganda. PhD applicants need a relevant master’s degree and must either already be enrolled at an ACT-PREP partner university (Round 1) or be eligible and willing to register at one (Round 2). Postdoctoral applicants need a relevant PhD obtained within the past five years, an appropriate host institution and mentor, institutional endorsement, and research aligned with an ACT-PREP priority theme. Applications may be submitted in English or French; female applicants are strongly encouraged.
