Overview The ACET Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Grant is a 12-month research support programme for early-career African researchers. It is designed for young scholars who want to produce policy-relevant, Africa-focused research that can inform transformation priorities across the continent. Research themes Applicants should align their work with ACET priority areas such as gender equality, regional integration, innovation and digital policy, and green industrial transformation. The strongest proposals should show a clear African policy problem, a practical research question, and a plan for turning the findings into useful evidence for decision-makers. Benefits and support Selected researchers may receive up to USD 15,000 in research funding. The programme also includes mentorship from ACET Senior Fellows, peer learning, networking, and opportunities to publish or present research outputs. Programme format and timeline The programme runs for 12 months. The call opened on 10 August 2026, rolling review continues until 7 September 2026, interviews are expected in mid-November 2026, the cohort is expected to be announced in December 2026, and the programme starts on 1 January 2027. Application requirements Applicants should prepare a concept note of up to 800 words, a statement of purpose of up to 500 words, a CV, and two academic or professional references.
